Possibly the hardest to track down of all of Can's albums, and with good reason: it's the only Can group effort not reissued by Spoon.  The band, apparently, considers it a failed album (Irmin Schmidt said "I do not feel magic in it.  Some people liked it.  Not me.")

The problem has been attributed to a downturn in band spirits at the time of recording, and that there were two tracks ("Pauper's Daughter And I" and "Give Me No Roses") which were attributed solely to bassist Rosco Gee.  Not that Gee's compositions were faulty, but Can as a group exists for spontaneity, an element which is necessarily discarded to a large extent when dealing with pre written tracks.

That said, "Out Of Reach" isn't a bad record: it just doesn't sound like Can.  This seems like a strange thing to say about a band which reveled in changing its sound (sometimes within the same song,) but it comes across as a band influenced by Can, rather than the original article.

Anyone out there know what the original album cover looked like?

(TKO Magnum, CTB 186, packaged with the album "Inner Space," which is better known as simply "Can.")
